Microsoft has released the Windows 11 KB5016629 cumulative update with security updates, improvements, including fixes for File Explorer and the Start Menu and a new Focus Assist feature.

KB5016629 is a mandatory cumulative update containing the August 2022 Patch Tuesday security updates for vulnerabilities discovered in previous months.

Windows 11 users can install today’s update by going to Start Settings > Windows Update and clicking on ‘Check for Updates.’

Windows 11 users can also manually download and install the KB5016629 preview update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

What’s new in the Windows 11 KB5016629 update

After installing today’s non-security update, Windows 11 will have its build number changed to 22000.856.

The Windows 11 KB5016629 cumulative update includes approximately 22 improvements and fixes, including a new Focus Assist feature.

The highlighted fixes or changes are listed below:

New!  You can now configure Windows 11 to receive important notifications when Focus Assist is enabled. When a notification sends its first important notification, Windows 11 will ask if you wish to continue seeing important notifications from that point forward. This setting can be changed in the Settings > System > Notifications page under the particular application.
The first time you start a new Windows device, you can now update to a new version of Windows 11 if one is available.
Fixed a bug causing File Explorer to freeze when you use the ‘play’ and ‘pause’ keyboard buttons.
Fixed a bug causing File Explorer to stop working when you click on the Start Menu’s context menu and have an external monitor.
Hovering over the search icon on the taskbar now works as expected and no longer displays a blank window.
Fixes problems opening the Start Menu.
Fixed a problem opening Troubleshooting Tools.
